FROZEN PIPES/ FURNACE PROBLEMS -MOVIES I AM WATCHING-FUN IN THE SNOW-HOOKING CLASS PROJECT

16 01 2015

HELLO

We have had some terrible weather, I was plagued with some frozen pipes which thawed and were fine, now it seems that there is a boiler issue.  Someone is coming today to see.   No heat in the kitchen except for the wood stove.  Which means I am getting up often at night to put wood in.  The kitchen is a separate zone.  Will be glad to have that issue cleared up as tonight temps are going near 10 below with the wind chill.

FUN IN THE SNOW

We had some great snow recently.  It was perfect for making snowmen and sledding.  Lil really enjoys the sled .

MOVIE RECOMMENDATION

LIVING ON A DOLLAR

I usually watch movies or documentary’s when I am hooking.  Yesterday I came across one that I highly recommend.  It is about the trials and tribulations of 2 college men spending the summer in Guatemala and living on a dollar a day to better learn about extreme poverty.  We in America think we know a lot about poverty.  But I think like everything else you have to live it to know it.  We have many programs that will help you, in other countries you are on your own.  An interesting fact I learned was 1.1 billion people around the world live on a dollar or less a day.  After a couple of weeks into it they realized that they didn’t have much energy and became lethargic.  Bad nutrition was the cause of this some children don’t have the energy to play.  Things are improving slowly  There are some programs set up in Guatemala that will loan people small amounts of money to start businesses.  Rosa borrowed $200. and started a weaving business. Now she is able to save some money for emergencies. This was a thought provoking movie which ended with a positive note.

CLASS HOOKING PROJECT

This winter/spring hooking class at SHeep and Shawl has to pieces to choose from  Each can be a hanging or chair pad.  The one I am working on now is called Posies in a Vase.  I am enjoying it.

THE COLD- FOUND YARN-QUILT JUST ABOUT DONE-A CAT DOING IT’S JOB-PUSSYWILLOWS

2 03 2014

HELLO

FROST ON THE BARN WINDOW

FROST ON THE BARN WINDOW

The cold is loosing it’s grip on us today. It was bitter last night and the house just couldn’t keep warm.  This morning when I finished giving the sheep water, I went down into the kitchen to shut the water off and by the time I did that and returned upstairs to open the faucet a drip had frozen on the faucet.  Its warmer tonight with some snow coming tomorrow.  Let it come its MARCH and spring is close.

FOUND YARN

I started this cabled mitten while I was working and time didn’t allow me to do much knitting in those days.  It got separated from the yarn.  I found the yarn and can finish them. Yea.  I have written it down in my calendar that I need to learn how to make gloves in the fall.  It’s hard to find wool gloves, I have so much yarn why not make my own.

THE QUILT

I am almost finished with the quilt.  Its simple and used up almost all the material.  I have put a woolen blanket on the inside and have a little sewing left  to do.   The rest of the woolen blanket will go into rabbits.  I have a wonderful pattern and will show you one when its done.

A CAT WITH A JOB

This afternoon I went to knitting at Pine Hill but before that I went to get 4 bales of hay.  Inside the barn I felt like someone was watching me and looked up and there it was.  A beautiful Angora gray and white cat probably looking for mice.  He looked quite warm tucked in the hay.

Even in this cold weather they are popping out.  Every year I trim a branch that is rubbing on the porch roof.  Last year it went perfectly but this year its hanging onto the porch.  I struggled with it for 15 minutes this morning and it was just too cold so tomorrow I will try again.

Many thanks for reading my blog today and I hope that you have a wonderful day.   Carole
