FISHING BOAT OFF OF NEW SMYRNA BEACH

Cindy and I  arrived in Florida on late Wednesday night and are happily staying at the Hampton Inn at New Smyrna Beach.  In my rush to leave I left my laptop in my car in Longmeadow .

MOM

We went to see my Mom before noon but she was asleep in the chair and it’s not her routine to wake up till around 2 pm so we decided to return after 4.   Mary the owner asked us for dessert but after the big meal at  Riverview we just didn’t have room.  Mom recognized us both and we had some pleasant conversations.  Mary’s family and friends were there and there was a family sing a long.  Mom enjoyed that.  It’s a wonderful place, full of love, family and pets.

Val was our waitress and had been for years.  The water was choppy today but there were still sailboats on the water. The time has slipped by fast and tonight we head to Orlando for an early flight home.  I will have more pictures of our visit when I arrive home.

Many thanks for reading my blog today from sunny Florida and I hope you day is wonderful.   Carole

HAY IN THE BARN-THE CURTAIN, THE CHICKENS-FLORIDA AND MOM

26 11 2013

Hello

Hay in the Barn

50 bales of hay came into the barn yesterday.

IMG_1916

The last hay from Josh Benson till next summer.  Next year I will contact him early for the full amount of hay  that I need.  He has his own elevator and it only takes 15 minutes or so to get 50 bales into the barn.  Less work for me and my helpers.  I will need hay again by the first of January.   It’s a hassle to be scrambling around for hay.  I do know of several places that will have some but probably no elevator.

THE CURTAIN

The curtain is done and is up, I had to fix the plastic on the door for the third time.  If I have to fix it again I will staple and tape it.  I am sure once I get the curtain for the window done the room will be much warmer.

Many thanks for reading my blog, as I write the snow is melting some and we are expecting rain tomorrow.

HAZEL AND MRS. BROW’S NEW HOME – DROP SPINDLE CLASS AT SHEEP AND SHAWL-SLIP COVER MADE INTO A DOOR CURTAIN

26 11 2013

HELLO

It’s a wintery morning here at the farm.  Snow is sticking to the ground and the windows are frosted.  One chicken waterer was frozen.  Luckily the sheeps water is heated to just above freezing  and is perfect.

Making a Slip Cover into a Door Curtain

IMG_1906

Tomorrow I am starting on the last door curtain project.  The house is old no matter what I do other than get new doors which are very expensive its hard to keep the drafts out.  Heavy curtains have proved so useful on all the other doors.  While looking for material I found this wonderful slip cover and I do have a matching sofa cover somewhere.

IMG_1906

So today I will make the curtain for the door  and when I find the sofa cover I will make a pair of heavy curtains for the window and the computer room will be cozy.

SHEEP AND SHAWL DROP SPINDLE CLASS

IMG_1905

Patti joined Moira and Amy this week and caught up quickly, I will show her how to ply after the holiday.  Moira and Amy really got the swing of doing it and tried silk and Sheltand wool.  They plyed their yarn.  SHeep and Shawl may offer a dye class in June and they plan to come.  Its always a thrill for me to teach a drop spindle class.  When I teach drop spindling I feel like I am passing the torch onto another and they will inspire someone else to learn.  Making socks, mittens or sweaters to be able to keep oneself and ones family warm is a wonderful thing.

Mrs. Brown and Hazel’s new home.

I found just the right type of cage for the chickens today.  And tonight it was moved upstairs in the small bedroom.  But it has wheels and can be moved anywhere.  I have them in it and they seem content.  Now I can get the wood stove going again and get the cat carriers put away.

COMPUTER WOES-THE SHOW-SNOW

24 11 2013

GOOD MORNING

SUNRISE THE FRIDAY MORNING

SUNRISE THE FRIDAY MORNING

COMPUTER WOES

For the past two days my computer has not worked, no mater what I seemed to do , but today I fixed it by going back in time.  I love that part of the computer and have used that in the past to get rid of things that have happened.  This time I think it my computer clean up was what caused the problem.  Don’t you wish sometimes we could go back in time and fix something we have done?

Snow

Its bitter cold this morning and snow is covering the ground.  The winds were wild for a time last night and one piece of my plastic has come off the door on the second floor..  I will fix that as soon as I can.  It looks like winter is already here.

THE AUTUMN FARMERS MARKET

It was a delightful small show in the elementary school in Shelburne Falls.  Music was playing through-out the day.  For my first time I did well, realized that I needed one more table for next year and some Vegan Salve.  There are many Vegans in Shelburne Falls and they are interested on how people care for their animals.  They took my card and I am sure to get some business.  It was a good networking day and I made money too.   There were so many wonderful things there for sale, veggies, garlic wreaths, felted items, meat and eggs, wool, soap  wonderful things made from old buttons, handmade clothing, maple syrup, jams and jellies, pickles and much more.   You could do all your Christmas shopping right here and have it all be local.

MRS. BROWN AND HAZEL-THE FIRST PAIR OF MITTENS FROM THE OLD SWEATER

22 11 2013

Hello,

There was snow on the ground when I woke up not even a covering yet but enough to see it,  It was a cold day, I did manage to do some outside things in the afternoon.

Mrs. Brown and Hazel

Mrs. Brown seems better today and is eating more.  I let them out together this morning and evening.  It was quite endearing.  He called her over to eat and then broke up the pieces of lettuce and dropped them in front of her.  They were both so happy.  They have never been without each other until this illness happened.

I am still not that great of the video thing but here is a short clip of them together this morning.

The Mittens

I finally got the mittens done from the old sweater.  I thought there would be a problem on my machine because they were thick but it was fine.  I used my hand as the pattern.  The rest of the mittens won’t be as easy as there will be no cuff and I will knit one.  This pair came from the sleeves.
