FARM TO FIBER

21 04 2013

Hello,

FARM TO FIBER

It was a cold and blustery day at the fair.  Lots of people in and out.  The advertising was poor  (something we will change next year) so we were missing a lot of the wool crowd.   It was good to see a lot of local people being introduced to wool productsIMG_0206                                                                   This is our first year at the fairgrounds and its a learning experience.  Come visit us today.IMG_0199

SETTING UP FOR THE SHOW-SITES ON THE RIDE HOME

20 04 2013

Hello,

Another beautiful spring day yesterday and we had rain during the night and today looks good too.

SETTING UP FOR THE SHOW

Yesterday with the little car loaded up to the top the three of us headed down to the fairgrounds.  With no one there the set up was easy, I still have more things to bring today.  I have the first booth coming in the door.  It is the Bee Keeping Booth at the Franklin County Fair.  All the booths in this Roundhouse are old shaped.  We did encourage people to look at the place so they know what they are getting.   We did our best to accommodate people who needed to change places.  Spinning will be an ongoing event throughout the 2 days.

THE LILAC

I bought this Lilac last year and planted it in a place where now I know that I shouldn’t have, for many reasons.  I can’t even remember the color but I think it is a dark one.  Lilac’s are one of my favorite flowers.  In almost every house I have lived in I have planted them near windows.  I love there wonderful scent.  When I moved in here there were many very old double whites and double purples.  They are still here.  And they almost tall enough to reach one of the upstairs bedrooms.    This one was pulled up during the winter and I thought it was a goner with its roots facing harsh winter conditions.    Low and behold there are buds on it so I moved it to a saver place near the porch.  I hope it will continue to thrive and bless me with wonderful flowers for years to come.

SITES ON THE RIDE HOME

The boys were exhausted, they were helping vendors bring in their wares all afternoon.  I had to stop at staples so we took another back road home.   We drop by this on the way home..

MAKING MOTH CHASERS-BOOKCASES-PELLETS

Hello

Sammy had his routine interrupted today, finally he is getting some sleep.

Today was a beautiful spring day.  I was able to get the back coop hens out into a small area.  When I get back they will go into the area near my son’s house.  I will have to work on a place for the middle coop hens and Hazel when I get back.  I have an idea where they will go and I will have to make a summer coop for them.

MOTH CHASERS

Tonight I finished the Moth Chasers.  They are a good seller for me at shows.  They are made up of many moth repelling herbs and many moth repelling essential oils blended together and put into a bag.    The whole house smells wonderful.

THE BOOKCASE MOVE

The bookcases got moved today and all the books from downstairs too.  Most of my books will now be upstairs.  The boys did it all for me, it would have taken me lots of time and lots of advil to do this.

Chris and Ricky put most of the pellets away today and will finish it up tomorrow.  It will be good to have that ton stored away.  I plan to get another 2 tons to get me through next winter plus 2 cords of wood, which I hope to get next month.  I would rather put wood away when the weather is a little cooler.

Many thanks for reading my blog and I hope you have a wonderful day.                                               Carole

PERMACULTURE LECTURE

Last night I went to a lecture at The River Valley C0-Op.  The lecture was given by Lisa DePiano.  The hour and a half went by so quickly and so much information was passed on.  I am signed up for her lecture on the use of rain water in May, and can’t wait for that.  She gave us a recipe for seed bombs to make.  These are bombs made of clay , compost and seeds .  People actually throw these seed balls at vacant lots or in your own yard,  A fun project for kids and adults alike.  The lecture touched on planting , water, compost, heating, the list goes on and on.

Next week I hope to get my pallet strawberry bed made.   If you are interested in making one all you have to do is look up pallet garden on the internet and it will give you all the instructions.    I will have mine upright but in the winter I will lay it down on cardboard and cover it with hay .  I think it will do well.

MOM

We are hoping to move my Mom soon, not to far from where she is but a smaller place where she will get more care.  I will keep you posted.

Hope you have a wonderful day and many thanks for reading my blog.               Carole

FARM TO FIBER

We met at the Round Barn today to finalize the plans and let them know what to take out of the filled barn.    It’s a delightful site.  The show will be in 2 weeks and fiber people from all around will enjoy what the vendors have to offer.  Fleeces will be on sale too.

I jut had to take a picture of the sign it’s so cute.

Clothesline

All winter long I have been trying to decide where to put the clothesline where it would be easy to get to and not in the way.  I finally made my choice and I think it will work well.
