NIGHTTIME SKY- DISTRAUGHT ROOSTER-CHICKEN WINDOW BOX-OWEN

29 09 2014

GREETINGS

Its cloudy this morning with a threat of rain later in the evening.  I have sent the proposal back to the man who will fix the drainage problem.  So I hope that will be done within the month.  I am painting the porch floor and the window casings in back of the house.  The whole house needs painting.  I was much younger when I did it last but I am sure I can do it and will plan on getting it down over the summer.

NIGHTTIME SKY

IMG_3801

Last night was a beautiful night for moon watching and star-gazing.  I sat out in the sheep yard for quite a while, watching the bats fly overhead and the sunset disappear in the western sky.  Chris installed an app that lets me see what  is in the nighttime sky overhead. I can be in the house and see whats going on .  Satellites  whizzing by, stars and constellations.  It’s so interesting.

DISTRAUGHT ROOSTER

Well yesterday Chris and I put the no crow collar on the calmest of the roosters Mr. Peppers.  After it was on he tumbled to the ground and made all sort of wild movements.  I will call the company and see if there was something I did wrong.  We followed the instructions.  I will keep you posted.

CAMP WOOL ORDER

I got a large order for wool packets out to Camp Wool last week.  She needs a Christmas Green.  After many unsuccessful attempts to get the right green today I will mix blue and yellow and hopefully get a green that will be okay.  Usually surprises in the dyeing world are fine with me, they seem to always sell but this time I am frustrated by it all.

CHICKEN WINDOW BOX

IMG_3807

I put some chrysanthemums in the CHicken window box this year.  They are beautiful.  Usually i decorate it with leaves and pumpkins and I may put a small pumpkins in there. I took the impatients and geraniums out and will replant them and overwinter them in the house.  Next year I can use them again.  I am going to putty and paint the window  and install it sometime this week.  Cold weather is coming!

Owen is now the blog helper coming in each time I am at the computer.  He gets his daily combing IMG_3799

NOVA SCOTIA NEXT SEPTEMBER-MORTICIA-KITCHEN TURNED UPSIDE DOWN

25 09 2014

GREETINGS

The sky tonight was so beautiful.  In the north-western sky it was oranges and yellows and in the south-western sky it was red and blues.  I just love it when I have some time at the end of the day to sit and enjoy it.

NOVA SCOTIA NEXT SEPTEMBER

There is a wonderful trip to Nova Scotia next September and I am hoping to go.  It’s a 6 day bus tour leaving from Vermont.  It’s a rug hooking tour and we will be stopping at Searsport Rug Hooking Shop in Maine, Deanne’s studio in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Cheticamp for 2 nights and Encompassing Design SHop and of course we couldn’t miss seeing the enchanting Peggy’s COve.  The scenery will be breathtaking.  If the bus is full the rates are very low and its all-inclusive.  I will start saving for it now.  Even if you are not a rug hooker its a great way to see lots of Nova Scotia.

MORTICIA

She is determined to be a Mother again.  In the morning she will fly out of the nest box and run around squawking getting a drink and quickly eating.  Getting back to her two little eggs as quick as she can.  I put plenty of hay in the nest box and she almost buries herself in it.  Tonight Mrs Brown has joined her.

THE KITCHEN TURNED UPSIDE DOWN

The freezer is in the kitchen but not before all the herbs were taken out of the herb cabinet and it moved across the room.   The move was timely, at this time of year I like to look through all the herbs and refresh them.  This year I dried spearmint, sage, parsley, basil, cilantro, and dill.  I really didn’t think that I would like the arrangement but it made more room and looks quite nice.  I will finish it up tomorrow.

NO CROW COLLARS

photo (45)

They arrived yesterday and I will put them on the two young roosters over the weekend.  They are not harmful and I think may help the roosters to ive a longer life.  Roosters need to take a huge breath to crow.  The breath is about twice the size of a normal breath.  This collar will not allow them to take such a deep breath and while they will still crow it will not be of that loud volume.  I think this is a wonderful thing.  People always have roosters they love but live in the city and can’t keep them, The collar is lightweight and simple and in no way harmful.  I will let you now how it works .

Many thanks for reading my blog today , I hope you enjoyed the day.   Carole

THROUGH THE BARN WINDOW-BLUE DYE DAY-CHICKENS

6 02 2014

HELLO

MAUDE SAID TODAY'S BREAKFAST WAS GREAT

MAUDE SAID TODAY’S BREAKFAST WAS GREAT

THROUGH THE BARN WINDOW

Today through the barn window the snow comes down heavily and dusts the old Hemlock tree on my neighbors property.  Its a beautiful site, the town is quiet, people are snuggled in their warm houses for the duration of the storm.  When its over there will be a lot of snow to shovel.  The sheep have been in and out this morning and were ready for their breakfast, Maude and Carol  K especially enjoy being outside.  The birds are all out looking for food and seeds.

Last night I was out on the porch and saw the Moon.  From the porch it looked like it was full of snow.

BLUE DYE DAY

I am not liking the blue as much as the other colors and will find a different blue dye when I do the next batch.

CHICKENS

I put in a call to John AKA The CHicken Man and he will raise up some bantams for me in the breeds I want.  He will be raising up lots of chicken anyway and that will be great for me.  The equipment  is costly and time it takes to raise chicks well I just don’t have the time for it.  Spring is such a busy time with shows and spring yard clean up.

I am working on the fleece lined mittens and hope to have one completed tomorrow.

Many thanks for reading my blog on this snowy day.  I hope you have a good day.   Carole

CURTAINS FOR THE BATHROOM-OLIVER-NIGHT SKY-CAT TOYS

14 12 2012

HELLO

CURTAINS

P1010777

Today I was going through my material and trying to organize it.  I found this chicken material and thought that it would be good for a curtain.  I wish it was a little wider but it will do.  I lined it with heavy muslin to keep some of the cold out.  The wind  during a winter storm comes roaring down the mountain and batters the house. I want to finish painting the trim this coming weekend and  I am planning to paint the walls a cream color sometime in the future so the curtains will look better then.  My daughter Betty made the horse shoe toilet paper holder out of shoes from our horse Amanda.  The bottles are lavender in cider vinegar.  This is great to add to the bath if your skin is itchy.

LAST OLIVER REPORT

He has made a splendid recovery and seems happier than he has every been.  He had eggs this morning and of course his fancy feast.

THE NIGHT SKY

Tonight there are meteor showers, I went out and watched while the sheep were eating.  The sky is so beautiful and I did see one meteor soaring through the sky.

CAT TOYS

Today I finished a lot of cat toys.  Some for the jar and some to sell at shows in the spring.  Tonight I hope to fill them but will have to wait for the cats to eat.  Its warm in here so they all will konk out.

THE MANGER SCENE

Most of this Manger Scene is from when I was a child.  There are several pieces that are newer and the Kings and Camels are still in a box in the attic.  I decided last year to keep it in this small greenhouse, where it could be viewed easier and there is less danger of pieces getting broken.

Thank you for reading my blog and hope you have a wonderful day.  If you have a chance check out the meteors.
