GREETINGS

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  I have been either doing shows or getting ready to do shows so I wasn’t quite prepared for Christmas this year.  Presents and cards were late and some cards not at all because my printer stopped working.  Well there is next year to plan better.IMG_6203

FAMILY PICTURE

The first child on the bottom row left is my Grandfather.  The picture as taken in Chesterfield, Mass. The picture was probably taken in the late 1800’s I presume as he was born in 1885.

Chris and Lilly Pad are here for the week.  We are planning to get a few small trees cut up and some of the big tree cut up tomorrow.

Many thanks for reading my blog today and I hope you have wonderful holidays.  And for my logger friends in England I hope the flooding stops quickly and thing are all okay.  Carole

BIRTHDAY SURPRISES-GETTING READY FOR A POP UP SHOP-THANKSGIVING AT THE DEERFIELD INN.

30 11 2015

GREETINGS

The cold spell is here and I am still getting a couple of outside chores done. Life moves at a slower pace after the first of the year.  I am already planning the gardens for next year.  One of the most important things I am going to do is plant a Christmas Greens Garden in  one of the new excavation spots near the stone wall and woods.  Every year I either have to scour the woods or buy Christmas greens and I am sick of it.  I would rather have them growing here for the birds to enjoy and me to pick.  I plan to get 3 Winterberry bushes.  I planted three about 4 years ago and realize that they were not planted in the proper spot and only one survived.  It had one berry on it and a bird got it! I also want to get a couple of of box wood, a couple more holly plants, my only female plant got winter kill during a bitter cold winter a couple of years ago.Add to that a couple of evergreens and I think I will be set.  These will add places for the birds and squirrels along a stone wall and will make a pleasant view from the barn and house.  I have the rest of the winter to look at catalogs to find the best plants.  What fun.

BIRTHDAY SURPRISES

My birthday this year was full of surprises.  It started with a face time from my two daughter saying they had found a car for me.  My poor old car was falling apart.  Now I have a van which will carry more hay and allow me to take many more things to shows.

IMG_6130

Next my son said he would rip up all the old floorboards in the barn and replace them.  I have been so concerned about the floor, the water has come in for several years and the floors were rotting.

Even Lil helped

These two things I needed most thank you so much to my children and their spouses.

Today I am drying oranges for the Christmas Balsam Mix.  The house smells wonderful.

THANKSGIVING AT THE DEERFIELD INN

IMG_6119

This is the second year Cindy and I have spent Thanksgiving together at Chandlers restaurant and the Deerfield Inn.  Cindy has now finished Law School and will graduate with her class next June.  We may resume our annual Thanksgiving in Ireland next year which we have done for years.  We had a great dinner at Chandlers with a special treat of having my neighbor Christa (the pastry chef) come out and  visit with us on this very busy day.  After a peaceful night and a wonderful breakfast we both went back to our busy lives.

Old Deerfield is a wonderful place to visit, History of America abounds here.

A SURPRISE VISITOR

I wonder who it is   It doesn’t smell skunky, haven’t seen any raccoons around so it might be a possum.  I am sure I will find out.  But it is time for animals to find warmer quarters.

Many thanks for reading my blog on this chilly morning.  Hope you have a wonderful day.   Carole

TEA SPELLACY MAKES HER 1000 POINTS LAST NIGHT-HAZEL UPDATE

16 12 2014

GREETINGS

TEA' IS IN THE MIDDLE

TEA’ IS IN THE MIDDLE

Making 1000 points is quite a feat and only three girls have done it.

IMG_4218

Last night was a glorious night for our family and for the school.  Tea’ scored early in last nights game and the game was stopped.  Two banners were dropped, many pictures were taken and friends aNd family cheered.  She will continue on at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. next fall.  Yea Tea’.

My Dad would have been so proud of Tea’ as he loved basketball and played many games at the Holyoke YMCA.

HAZEL

Hazel is doing a little better.

IMG_4220

He is getting treatments twice a day and plenty of thyme and basil in his diet.   He hates  the treatments which are really nothing more than putting some VET RX on his nose and under his wings  and he is still quite feisty!

We will be getting some sprinkles today and it will be in the 40’s.  Rain overnight and good for a few days.  This gives me a wonderful chance to clean out the chicken areas and the barn.

Many thanks for reading my blog today and I hope your day is wonderful.  Carole

COLD TEMPS-COUSIN BILL-LETTING THE CHICKENS OUT

8 12 2014

GREETINGS

Lil in front of the outside tree

Lil in front of the outside tree

The temps  are going  down to the single numbers tonight.  The wood stove is cranking in the kitchen and the oil furnace is going..  I haven’t posted a blog lately because Microsoft updated my computer AGAIN and again things are missing or in the wrong place.  This time I did call them and tell them that I hate windows 8.  Thanks to Chris he helped me find out what happened.

COUSIN BILL

My friend Deb sent me an article in the mail from the Northampton Gazette newspaper about William Bisbee, a cousin of mine.  His son had taken a collection of letters written home about The Korean War and had them published into a book.

I use to see COusin Bill once a month at The Chesterfield Historical Society but not lately so I gave him a call.  Of course I wanted to read of his experiences in Korea.  You don’t read or hear about The Korean War experience much.

We agreed that I would visit him on Thursday. We  had quite a nice chat about family and the book. He still lives in the same house and takes care of himself, still drives at 88 and is active in the town activities.  We talked about the changes in the town  and in our lives.  On my way home I thought how lucky I was to have had these wonderful people in my life and although the past was so wonderful I must let it stay there and live in the present.

The pictures below are of places of my childhood, a  fun and carefree life which many children don’t get these days.
