CANADIAN GEESE-THE LAVENDER FEST-THE ROBIN

28 06 2015

GREETINGS

Its been raining hard off and on all night.  At this point it seems that I won’t be setting up at the Fest today.  Chris made sure that everything was dug out so no water came in the barn.

CANADIAN GEESE

IMG_5275

Since I moved her 18 years ago geese have made nest on this property, showing their goslings how to walk on the side of the road and how to cross it and the best places in the neighborhood to get a meal.  Its one of those things in this fast pace world that slows you down for a few moments just to watch them.

THE LAVENDER FEST

IMG_5287

Yesterday was a perfect day for the Lavender Fest.  Cooler temps and a cloudy day made things perfect.  They had the biggest attendance ever.  I sold quite a bit of salve and met so many nice people.

This is Marty she is Sandy’s sister (Sandy hosts the Lavender Fest).  SHe bought my Norwood Loom and want to show me her first project on it.  I am so glad that the loom has gone to such a wonderful home.  Great Job.

ROSE GERANIUM SALVE

The rose geranium salve is done.  I thought i had a brilliant idea but ir didn’t work out.  I thought I would grind up some rose petals to put in the salve. but had to strain them out.  A lesson learned.  The salve came out nice with a subtle, musky smell of roses.

THE ROBIN

A the fledglings should be gone from the nest in the Crabapple tree but there is one  who won’t leave the nest.  It’s as big as its mother.  There are some kids that never want to leave the nest!

MYSTERY ILLNESS

The medication has not improved me at all so I will probably stop taking it soon. I think I have a form of Lymes disease which is often not diagnosed.  Further investigation is necessary.

FOOTSTOOL-HOGWEED-CHINESE LANTERNS-GATHERING ROSE PETALS FOR CHICKENS

21 06 2015

GREETINGS

Lil checking for eggs this morning

Lil checking for eggs this morning

I can’t believe that I had to light a fire in the stove this morning.

IMG_5236

It was only in the 40’s here.  More rain coming in so trenches were dug this morning and will be checked tonight.  We have had curious weather this spring.  The one thing I can count on each year is the Jewelweed plant .  It really doesn’t care if its warm or cold it just grows and grows.  I have pulled about 1000 plants and have so many more to get out before seeds form.

FOOTSTOOL

It’s been years in the making and now it  will become a pillow.  It will not fit into the footstool frame.  I will cover the footstool with a paisley  material that I love.

IMG_5237HOGWEED

This is the first time I have ever heard of Hogweed.  A friend thought  she had it so I did some investigating online

Its listed as a Federal Noxious  plant.  It can grow up to 14 feet tall with leaves as large as 5 feet across.  DO NOT TOUCH THIS PLANT.  Touching the sap of this plant can cause sever burns, permanent scaring and even blindness.

CHINESE LANTERNS

They have come back this year and multiplied.  I am glad I do love them in fall decorations.

IMG_5239

ROSE PETALS

I am gathering and drying herbs for the chickens i the winter.  Today I picked the rose petals that fell on the ground.  I will dry them tomorrow.

Many thanks for reading my blog today and I hope you have a wonderful Father’s Day tomorrow.   Carole

NEW BAGS FROM CHRISTA-MOVING HENS

18 06 2015

GREETINGS

Cloudy day with some rain expected in the afternoon.  Got hay this morning and received a message from another hay source yesterday who sells me at least 100 bales each year.  He said he would be lucky to supply me with 50 bales this year.    It will be a tough feeding year.

IMG_5233

I was so sorry to hear about the killings in Charleston this morning.  I was brought up where you would judge a person by his character not his color.  Our country seems to be going backwards instead of forward.

NEW BAGS FROM CHRISTA

IMG_5234

Look at the new bags from Christa.  THey are made from my feed bags and are purse size.  She has even put my logo on them.  I love the lining fabric and the pocket.  Just wonderful.  I will have some available at the Lavender Fest.

MOVING HENS

Every time I move hens I think things will go smoothly most times it doesn’t.   I had the caravan yard ready and decided to move the two large hens that Murphy was picking on  and  Morticia and Violet the Bantams into the caravan area.  That did not work out at all so I quickly moved the Bantams into Hazel and Mrs. Brown’s pen.  Hazel was delighted two more girls his dreams have come true but Mrs. Brown was very angry.  Her little face showed it.  I really think she was jealous.  Just one month ago they were all together happily.  Today is another day and peace seems to reign.

I will leave you today with a little video of Morticia taking her first real dirt bath since late fall.  HOpe you have a  lovely day  Carole

SILK EYE PILLOWS

IMG_5215

I have finished some Some Silk Eye Pillows,  They are filled with flax and lavender.  SOothing for tired eyes.  The silk is hand dyed, and they is available in size small and medium at the show or from me directly.

MAKE DO

Another project gone from the dining room table.  A blanket that my Dad always kept in his car.  It kept kids warm, was used for picnics covered fresh veggies and many more things.  It’s a nothing special blanket probably acrylic but the memories held in it are more precious than all the money in the world.    My Dad was a caring person who always thought of others before himself  always watching over his family and friends like a Shepard watches over his flock.

After years of wear and being stored it had some holes in it.  I cut it up and the cats will use some of it in their beds and I will use large piece in my car.

IMG_5213

We live in a throw away society today.  There are things that have to be thrown away, i do my best to recycle and repurpose things. My family always repaired things and used them up this went back for generations its hard to break that old of a habit.

EGGS

I have heard that in some states eggs are being rationed because of the avian flu.  I am always grateful for having my chickens.  They have given me so much more that I could give them.  Eggs and Entertainment!!!!!
