SAMMY WATCHING THE CHICKENS AND SHEEP SHOW-ORDER FOR CAMP WOOL-MORE SALVE COMING-TRANSPLANTING RASPBERRIES

3 05 2015

GREETINGS

Its a beautiful Sunday morning with temps in the 70’s and sunny who could ask for more.  I hope you enjoyed the Sea Shanty yesterday I had forgotten how wonderful those old songs were.  I am so glad that there are great groups like them that are keeping them alive. Yesterday I got the back chicken area prepared.  Letting them into it was easy but getting them back in at night wasn’t.  I had forgotten that Phoebe had never been out in the yard, Chicken Little had.  There was a lot of excitement and urging on my part and after 15 minutes they went in for the night.

Yesterday the windows were open and Sammy stay up instead of sleeping the day away.

SO many interesting things to watch.  Chicken Little and Phoebe so close he could almost touch them and Carol K on the hill  Its better than Cat TV.

ORDER FOR CAMP WOOL

Its always nice to get a call from LeAnne of Camp Wool in Kennebunkport, Maine. I get a chance to chat with someone that I admire, see how things are going at her store and get an order.  Summer is coming and with that brings many visitors to Kennebunkport.  Her store is full of lovely things and you don’t have to be  a needlecrafter to find something you love.  She always has some antiques and finished products.

MORE SALVE COMING

I have finally fOund a recipe for the Black Tar Drawing Salve that my Grandfather use to make.  It won’t be exact but close enough.  Can’t wait to get it started.

TRANSPLANTING BLACKBERRIES

The back of my house doesn’t have a lot of area before it meets the stone wall holding back the mountainIMG_4950

There is a place to add a door which would be wonderful.   lt would save me from walking all around the house..  WHile getting the chicken area prepared I realized that there was enough sun there. I planted  some young black berries near the house and near the wall. It was a spot that needed to be filled.    i will spend ti\me digging up the remains of a chimney but I think I can add some tansey and other flowers right near the windows.

DYEING THE YARN-CAMP WOOL- HESTER UPDATE- ANOTHER DYE BOOK

31 01 2014

Hello,

ANOTHER DYE BOOK

ANTIQUE COLOURS FOR PRIMITIVE RUGS

I bought this book in the late 90’s and am using it more lately  It is put out by W. Cushing & Cushing the dye company.  Written by Emma Lou Lais and Barbara Carroll.  I am going to use at least one of the formula’s today in dyeing a green.  The book has formulations using Cushing dyes and there are pictures of the color it will become.  When I first started chemical dyeing I only used Cushing.  One dye package would dye wool, silk and cotton, it made it economical.   They changed the dye formula in the 90’s and I then I started using Pro Chem dyes and have been using them ever since.  I now use Cushing again and this dye book helps me get the primitive colors I want.  The book is still available and a quite handy dye book to have around.  You should be able to purchase it from any Rug HOoking store or directly from Cushing in Kennebunkport, Maine.

CAMP WOOL

It is with great sadness that I announce that Camp Wool is not going to be held this year.  LeAnn worked very hard but just couldn’t find a venue for us this year.  The one we had used before had increased their prices and she wants to keep it affordable for everyone.  I am sure she will find another place for next year. I look forward to it so much its one of three Rug Hooking events that I attend and enjoy.  Going to Maine gives me a chance to visit my childhood friend Francine and my Sister in-law Rita.  I look forward to both those visits so much  Well I hope to incorporate them in my trip to Nova Scotia.

I took this picture last nite as she was getting ready for bed.  She is quite good and is eating and drinking well.  I really think she enjoys being in the kitchen where there is activity. My friend Anne from Ireland gave me some great advice and today I will pick up a soft toothbrush and brush her legs.

WILD HORSE ADOPTION CONFERENCE  will he held at Tufts at the end of March.  For all you people who are interested in Mustangs go to the Wild Horse Adoption website.  It’s great to have it in our neck of the woods.

DYEING THE YARN

CAMP WOOL

It was a wonderful time and I will be glad to get back to my regular life.  I want to get the yard done, the chickens all out and the pallet strawberry bed made.  It will be good to get home.  The picture below is the new Camp Wool Store right in downtown Kennebunk.

Perkins Cove

Mary Jane, Deb and I went to one of my favorite places, Perkins Cove.  Just sitting on the bench gazing out into the ocean gives one a sense of peace.

CAMP WOOL

28 04 2013

Hello,

Camp Wool

Every Camp Wool donations of food , litter and all things for a shelter are taken for the Animal Welfare Shelter, a raffle of donated goods is also held for them.  My friend Francine is very involved with the shelter.   What a wonderful thing for LeeAnn, the owner of Camp Wool to do for the helpless animals who are lucky enough to end up in their shelter.

LeeAnn and her family and staff members make sure that every detail is checked and double checked, both at the event and in her shop.  Each customer is given special attention no matter how many questions you ask, each is answered and you are treated like you are the only person in the shop.  Something very rare these days indeed.  The new shop is a chock full of hooking and needlecraft items, antiques, everything one would need.

I feel lucky to be able to hook for two days and get to enjoy old friends and meet new ones.  There is lots of sharing of ideas and its great to see what other people are doing.  Debbie has started a new rug and I love it.  She has researched  The Northern Light and found it still holds the speed record for going around Cape Horn.

IMG_0240Here is a glimpse of my rug with part of the sky done.  I have drawn in one Puffin and hope to hook him today.

The lobster pin was owned by my Mother and will be added to the sea when I am finished.

Many thanks for reading my blog and I hope you have a wonderful day.    Carole

Family and Friends

Today I met my Sister-in-Law, Rita for Breakfast.  We haven’t seen in other in so many years.  We spent hours catching up,   It was so good to spend time with her again, hope to do it again soon.

After our visit I stopped at Camp Wool, her new place is beyond words.  Packed full of stuff for the needleworker and hooker.  Of course I am going back tomorrow night.

The afternoon belonged to Fran and I .  We have been friends since we were very small.  Our Mothers were friends for most of their lives.  Not too many people have friends for a lifetime.  Its a special gift.  SHe has a sweet Herb Shop on High Street in Kennebunk.  She also does some local shows.
